God Uses Foolish, Powerless, and Despised People – 1 Corinthians 1

From my reading in 1 Corinthians 1 in the One Year Bible New Testament.

God choses to use the weak in order to glorify himself.

People whom the world sees as weak are often the ones that God uses most. And I’m glad! The Apostle Paul said,

“Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. 1 Cor 1:27-29

God uses the despised and foolish, so that no one can boast.

Humility is a prerequisite for entering the kingdom of God, so those of us who know we are weak and sinful have an easier time getting in!

If you boast, you should boast in Christ!

“God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.” 1 Cor 1:30-31

Jesus is the only reason we were made right with God. He is the one who made us pure and set us free from sin. It is only through God’s grace that we are saved.

Thank God today that he chooses the foolish, powerless, and despised and that he chose you!
