He Called Himself The Son Of God – John 19:1-22

From my reading in John 19:1-22 in the One Year New Testament.

Those who say that Jesus didn’t claim to be God do not understand the Bible.

Even those who were trying to crucify him used the fact that Jesus clearly and regularly claimed divinity.

“The Jewish leaders replied, “By our law he ought to die because he called himself the Son of God.” John 19:7

Jesus told them he was the Son of God because he was.

Jesus was crucified for telling the truth about himself. Many people reject Jesus as the Son of God and want to look to him as a good teacher or example. But Jesus never meant to be those things alone. His primary mission was to freely give up his life as a sacrifice for our sins.

“You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.” John 19:11

Before Pilate issued the death sentence Jesus had already accepted it from his Father.

Jesus was the son of God and sacrificed himself willingly for us.

It is not enough just to understand, “Jesus died for you.” You must turn from running your own life and give your life to following Jesus.  Receive his forgiveness by faith and he will transform you into a new person!
