Listen To Your Wife! – Matthew 27:1-26

Reflection from my reading in Matthew 27:1-26 in the One Year Bible New Testament.

Guys this will only take a minute! On Valentines Day I will do you a favor and write one of my shortest articles yet on listening to your wife! In a passage that has so much other significance there is one verse that I will highlight today!

Here’s the scene. Jesus was handed over to Pilate but pilate was trying to find a way to release Jesus because he knew that he was innocent. So Pilate set up a plan that he thought would get him out of the situation. He offered them a choice to release Barabbas (a convicted criminal) or Jesus (who was completely innocent).

Meanwhile during all of this Pilate’s wife received a dream.  She told her husband,

“Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.” Matthew 27:19

Wise words! Sometimes women are more intuitive and sensitive to spiritual things. In this situation Pilate’s wife was given a dream that caused her to suffer.  She wisely warned him to let Jesus go, but Pilate didn’t listen to his wife and ultimately allowed Jesus to be crucified.

We don’t know what would have happened if Pilate had listened to his wife, but we do know that God used Pilate’s lack of wisdom as a part of God’s bigger plan to save us through Jesus’ death on the cross.

Men, your wife could be God’s way of speaking to you and could save you from hurting yourself and others.

Do your self a favor and LISTEN TO YOUR WIFE!
